Privacy Policy for Piano!

1. Our Fundamental Commitment

Piano! (“the Application”) was designed and developed by Ryan Drean with one guiding philosophy: your creative workspace belongs to you. We believe utility software should be fast, delightful, and completely free from tracking, data harvesting, telemetry, and advertising.

Piano! does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, usage information, or device identifiers whatsoever.

2. Data Collection (0 Bytes Collected)

No Personal Information: We do not ask for, collect, or store your name, email address, physical location, IP address, or Apple ID.

No Analytics or Telemetry: There are zero analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, Segment, or telemetry services). We have no idea when, where, or how often you play.

No Advertising or Commercial Trackers: Piano! is 100% ad-free. No advertising frameworks or cross-app tracking beacons exist in our codebase.

3. Offline Operation & Network Isolation

Piano! is built to function 100% offline. The application does not require an active internet connection to launch, play, or utilize any of its acoustic sound banks. In accordance with Apple macOS App Sandbox specifications, Piano! does not request outgoing or incoming network access permissions.

4. Audio Processing & MIDI Hardware

  • Local Synthesis: All sound playback and audio DSP calculations occur directly on your Mac using native macOS CoreAudio and AudioUnit subsystems.
  • No Microphone Access: Piano! is a musical playback instrument. It does not record audio or access your Mac's microphone or audio input devices.
  • Local MIDI Devices: When you connect a USB or Bluetooth MIDI controller, Piano! interacts with the device purely through macOS CoreMIDI. Device names and connection states are never logged or transmitted over any network.

5. Local Preferences & Storage

To remember your favorite settings (such as your chosen acoustic sound bank, octave view count, key label display, and color theme), Piano! saves standard key-value pairs in macOS UserDefaults on your local hard drive. These preferences never leave your Mac and can be reset at any time by clearing the application data.

6. Children's Privacy

Because Piano! collects no personal data from any user, it is completely safe for musicians of all ages, including children under 13, and complies fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and GDPR regulations.
